Pre-Race Jitters

I’m heading out to Kyrgyzstan today, and I’m kind of nervous about it. I am hopefully smarter than I was in 2023, and I think I have addressed the issues that prevented me from finishing back then.

My Coros Dura is lightyears ahead of my previous computers in terms of pointing me where I want to go. I am bringing more meds than last time to avoid getting sick. I am objectively fitter than last time. I have better power management, and should have enough battery to go 3/4 of the race without any recharge.

My weak points are likely still food and resupply Kyrgyzstan is not an easy country to be a vegetarian in. My struggles with learning enough language to convey my wishes are real – my previous facility for linguistics now eludes me. Perhaps if I work hard during my time before the race, immersion will kickstart my language learning.

This time, I am going earlier and plan to at least get past some of the altitude sickness, even if 5 days won’t give me meaningful physiological changes, at least I should get past some of the discomfort of altitude.

Watch my dot (look near the back of the race ) when the race starts on the 15th (the 14th in Canada) and see what happens.
